LIONS FACING RELEGATION CRUNCH

LEICESTER are gearing up for a battle to save their Premiership status next week.

Newly crowned second tier champions Sheffield will race off the Watling JCB Lions over two legs next week in the promotion / relegation decider.

The first leg is confirmed for Sheffield’s Owlerton Stadium on Monday, October 9, with the return at Beaumont Park 48-hours later.

And that means Leicester co-promoter Neil Machin will lock horns with the club where he spent over 20-years in charge and oversaw 649 meetings during his time with Sheffield.

“It’s going to be a very tense battle,” said Machin. “I’m delighted for Sheffield winning the Championship, of course I am, they have thoroughly deserved it.

“But now I’m focussing on Leicester and we know we have a tough battle on our hands in both meetings.

“We need to keep things close at Sheffield on Monday and try and finish the job at Beaumont Park on Wednesday. We need every Leicester fan to turn out in force for that one.”

Cameron Heeps has been booked as a replacement for Josh Bates in both meetings.

Meanwhile it’s been confirmed that anyone attending the first leg at Sheffield on Monday can see the return for just £5 on production of Monday’s readmission ticket.
